Football vs. American football

Football (also called soccer) is popular all over the world. The game is played by 2 teams of 11 players. It lasts 90 minutes, with a break at half time. Most teenagers watch soccer on television, but it is very exciting to go to the grounds to watch the team you support. You can play football in P.E. at school, enroll in a local club, or just kick a ball around the streets with friends.

The rules:
*To win the match, you have to score more goals than the opposing team.
*Players aren’t allowed to touch the ball with their hands, but they have to kick the ball.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL is very popular in the USA. The first American football match was played in 1969. A match is divided into 4 quarters of 15 minutes each. But because the game stops very often, the match sometimes lasts more than two hours. There are 2 teams of 11 players on the pitch.

The rules:
*You have to score points by putting the ball over the other team’s goal line. It is called a touch-down.
*You are also allowed to kick the ball between the goal posts.
